This red velvet marble cake is a delightful combination of velvety red velvet and rich chocolate cake, topped with a luxurious cream cheese frosting. Each bite offers a perfect balance of sweetness and a hint of cocoa, making it a truly delicious dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter into two bowls; leave one as is and mix cocoa powder into the second bowl to create the chocolate batter.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of red velvet and chocolate batters alternately into the prepared pans, then use a knife to gently swirl them together.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until desired sweetness is reached. Stir in vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as desired.
